That afternoon sugar craving may be telling you more than you think. Here’s how methylation, glucose, cellular energy and your genetics may fit into the bigger picture.
MTHFR and the neverending sugar crash cycle. You may have seen a recent Substack post of ours. Make sure to go follow the personal wellness Substack as well as my own Substack if you want to. I do a couple little articles here and there. But one of our latest posts was about MTHFR and the whole process [music] and cycle that happens with sugar ATP production and energy cycles
up and down. Really, what that has to come down to is the way that our body processes [music] sugar into the blood and into the cell eventually and where that's actually coming from. So, let's break it down a little bit. MTHFR, it's a genetic snip. There's two variants that we like to look at. The C677T and the A1298C. If
you've gotten your genetic testing done, hey, let us know which one do you have. Are you hetererozygous, homozygous? I'm always super curious to know about that. So, [music] if you have one of these MTHFR snips, that really has to do with folate production, folate manufacturing, folate, just the way folate's used throughout our cells. [music]
But, it's not the end- all beall for everything folate. We're really talking about a widespread of things around [music] methylation issues. And so when we talk about MTHFR, it's kind of a broad catch-all term. We're really talking about [music] methylation. And methylation has many different processes all that lead down to DNA production,
antioxidant production, antioxidant oxidant protection and energy production. All these different [music] things are kind of downstream effects of MTHFR, so of methylation. So it's a really widespread term that we use to talk about a lot of different things. But [music] today I want to talk about the cycle that so many of our patients
and our clients get into of just dealing with sugar cravings because of their MTFR status. When we deal with sugar, generally the sugar that we're actually looking for is called glucose. Glucose is the version of sugar that our body uses readily to create ATP in our cells. And now glucose isn't the only energy
production molecule that we use. We also use stored fats and even proteins [music] at certain times and even lactic acid at other times, ketones. We use all these different sources of energy to create ATP in our cells. But glucose is the quickest. It's the fastest acting one. And so it's the one that our body
jumps to quickest [music] to make energy happen to make to make our cells feel satiated and energized so that they can actually continue their functions. So with MTHFR, [music] we are always behind in making ATP just we never make enough
energy at a cellular level at a molecular level. So the different MTHFR variants and Dr. bursters talked about this in the past will even cause a varying degree of how many ATP [music] per one carbohydrate that we can actually create and there's different varying ways to look at that and take that but there's certain MTHFRs that are
going to be more intense than others so again the overall aspect of what we're talking about is someone with MTHFR always lagging always waking up tired every day and just never able to get ahead energy-wise and so they get put into this cycle their body thinks we just need quick energy now to help
fulfill this lack of energy that we're dealing with. And so that you go and reach for quick sugars. And that's [music] where fruits are one thing, probably one of the better carbohydrates you can reach for. But then in our modern world, we actually reach a lot for any [music] processed foods, whatever is quickest and easiest. Just pop it in, feel good, feel great in that
moment. And then 20 minutes later, you get an insulin crash and you don't feel so good anymore. So, we get this neverending cycle of reach for a quick sugar, you feel great for a minute, insulin spikes, blood sugars are going crazy and then they just drop. The other major thing that happens is that your
cells want to use those quick sugars uh more than anything, but then when there's an overabundance cuz we get into the cycle, eat again and again and again, more of those sugars are then going to become stored [music] fat and glycogen. And so you you then are using all these sugars to to have a good quick high, but then you're storing all the
rest of them, increasing the amount of fat that's stored on the body. And so this neverending cycle [music] is just terrible for people. We get stuck in it. I myself have been stuck in it multiple times through my life. And you think you're doing everything you can. You're still working out. You're still trying to eat as good as you can, but you keep grabbing those quick sugars and you just
keep [music] getting in this circle back and forth again and again. And you just happen to store more and more fat each time. So [music] what can you do to break this cycle? How do you get out of this? And that's what I love about our MTHFR uh the intracellular testing that we do and our MTHFR daily product. We we designed MTHFR daily based off of all of
the recent 15 or 20,000 intracellular tests that we got and combined with which ones are MTHFR patients or not. And we made the multivitamin with what everyone was the most deficient in. That's what MTHFR daily is. [music] And that's what fills all those holes of methylation. We're not just talking about folate. And we're not even just
talking about methylated B vitamins. There's a number of nutrients that we're [music] deficient in that are just missing throughout that whole methylation cycle. And that is what is causing your inability to really make that downstream effect of ATP. [music] Everything gets thrown out of whack. I apologize if I'm sweating out here. I'm
in Florida in the middle of July and it's nice and hot, nice and humid today. So, fill the holes of methylation. Remember that brick wall we've talked about before? It has a bunch of holes in it. That's your MTHFR status. But if you can supplement with the correct forms [music] of certain nutrients, you fill each and one of those holes and you have a nice sturdy wall once again. That's
what we're trying to do with our methylation. When that's all in place, give your body those antioxidants that methylation is trying to produce anyway. And then let your cells do what it's supposed to do. Blood sugars stabilize. They normalize. And that's why we love getting the CMA intracellular testing because it gives us all the other nutrients that you're deficient in to
help really stabilize those blood sugars. So the correlation of how much sugar is being given into the cells versus how much leftover for storing into fat, we help that. We help stabilize all that. Now next, we [music] want to get your body into a place where it's actually needing to use the stored
fat, turn that glycogen into glucose for use. And so there's [music] several steps that you do to get your body into that stage to be able to do that. So [music] one thing is fasting overnight. Really, really great. even for a solid 12- 16 hours a day, not having anything go through your digestive tract is going
to put your body into the stage of where it needs to utilize what it has saved. So intermittent fasting is incredibly beneficial for that. Number two, doing cardio during that fasted [music] time is going to be the optimal time for your body to burn that stored [music] fat uh because it has to use whatever energy
source it can and nice cardio, just a good quick pace on the treadmill, even add some incline if you can, is going to be the best thing. you're not even running, [music] just walking. Doing a nice quick walk. So, take a good long long walk around your neighborhood, anything is going to be the best thing for you in those early times of the day
to do some fasted cardio. Put your body right into that phase. Now, next is going to be trying to uh remove those processed [music] sugars from your diet. It's going to be the next thing. Give your body the real foods that it needs to be able to remove excess [music] sugar floating around in the blood so that it can utilize the stored fats. So,
high protein diet is going to be your best bet for that. get your body [music] into even a keto state here and there. That's where the intermittent fasting, high protein, and just really good simple carbohydrates are going to be the best thing for you to just keep your body chugging along in the ways that it's supposed to alongside all the supplementation of just like we talked
about. Fill all the holes of methylation, fill any other deficiencies you're you're dealing with, watch the whole thing get better. And so, that's really kind of the overall aspects of what we have to talk about with MTHFR and the neverending sugar crash cycles that our patients deal with. So, if you
