Follow the connections

Its scenario assumes a prolonged disruption. This guide preserves those planning categories without reproducing water-treatment quantities, invasive first-aid instructions, medication stockpiling or product promotions.
Plan for needs, not only products
The report’s useful organizing categories are water, sanitation, food, warmth, communication and personal health needs. A household plan links these categories: who needs assistance, which information must be available and how people will communicate if usual services are interrupted. Separate general preparedness from medical treatment. A list of supplies cannot tell someone when a serious symptom requires professional care, and a product promotion is not evidence that an item belongs in every kit.

This guide does not reproduce stockpiling instructions, prescription-only medication lists or directions to treat serious illness at home. An emergency kit is not a substitute for emergency services.
