B6, bone mineralization and alkaline phosphatase

ALPL encodes tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme important to bone and tooth mineralization and vitamin B6 metabolism. Persistently low alkaline phosphatase can deserve a different evaluation from a general nutrient deficiency.

How Dr. Purser connects the pieces

Dr. Purser’s notes bring ALPL into the B6 and bone-health conversation. A common marker such as rs4654748 is not itself a diagnosis of hypophosphatasia. Bone pain, poorly healing fractures, early tooth loss and repeatedly low alkaline phosphatase warrant clinical assessment; automatically adding P-5-P can miss that distinction.

A question to bring to your visit

Do my alkaline phosphatase results and bone or dental history call for an ALPL-focused evaluation?
